British Ambassador Visits Casablanca’s New Coventry University Campus
The British Ambassador to Morocco, Simon Martin, recently visited the newly established campus of Coventry University in Casablanca. During his visit last month, Ambassador Martin toured the campus premises and expressed his excitement about its upcoming opening in September 2023.
Emphasising the significance of the British-Moroccan partnership in education, the ambassador noted the increasing number of Moroccan students choosing to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom. He highlighted the value of the Coventry University campus in Morocco, as it offers Moroccan students the opportunity to study UK programs in business and engineering within their own country.
The idea for the Casablanca campus originated in January 2020 when Coventry University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Latham, and IIEM Founder, Professor Tariq Obaid, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a purpose-built campus in Casablanca. The MOU signing occurred during a reception at the inaugural meeting of the UK-Morocco Higher Education Commission, hosted by Coventry University in London.
Since then, academic teams from Coventry and Morocco have collaborated to develop courses in engineering and business studies tailored to meet the needs of the Moroccan market, with a strong focus on employability. These programs received approval in November 2020.
The plan to establish a Coventry University campus in Morocco was first announced in 2022. The new campus, located in Bouskoura on the outskirts of Casablanca, will officially commence operations in September 2023. The university will offer courses in engineering, architecture, and business, providing students with degree qualifications equivalent to those awarded at Coventry’s campuses in the UK. The Moroccan campus will follow the successful model of Coventry University’s Knowledge Hub in Egypt.
Coventry University, renowned for its excellence, was honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. In July 2022, Vice-Chancellor John Latham stated, “Coventry University’s global outlook brings tremendous benefits to students and staff, enabling us to share the best research practices and ensure more individuals have access to life-changing qualifications.”
